ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how a specific treatment called endobronchial valve (EBV) therapy affects muscle function in people with severe emphysema, a type of chronic lung disease. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes emphysema, can lead to muscle weakness, making it hard for patients to exercise and enjoy daily activities. The trial aims to discover how EBV treatment, which helps improve breathing by reducing lung over-inflation, also impacts the muscles in the legs, specifically looking at changes at the cellular level both before and after the treatment.

To be eligible for this trial, participants must be scheduled to receive EBV treatment and be able to complete a specific exercise test using a stationary bike. They should also understand and agree to participate in the study. During the trial, participants will undergo exercise tests and muscle biopsies (a small sample of muscle taken for study) to assess how their muscle function changes with the treatment. This research could provide valuable insights into improving the physical health and overall quality of life for people living with severe emphysema.
