ClinConnect Summary
The PrEPared-RN clinical trial is studying a new way to help high-risk individuals prevent HIV infection using a treatment called PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis). In this trial, specially trained nurses will guide participants through the process of getting tested for HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), as well as provide counseling about the importance of these tests. If a participant tests negative for HIV, they will receive medications (either Truvada or Descovy) to help protect them from HIV. Throughout the study, nurses will also check in on participants' general health and any challenges they face, like access to transportation or housing, which can affect their ability to stay on PrEP.
To be eligible for this trial, participants should be between 18 and 65 years old and at risk for HIV. This includes gay and bisexual men of color, transgender individuals, and heterosexual men and women, among others. However, people who are currently HIV positive, younger than 18, or have certain health conditions may not qualify. Overall, participants can expect a supportive environment where nurses will closely monitor their health and help them stay on track with their HIV prevention plan.
