ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how surgeons decide whether to perform surgery on premature babies with a serious condition called necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), which causes severe inflammation in the intestines. The goal is to understand the current practices of surgeons, including when and why they choose to operate. By gathering information from surgeons shortly after they make their decision, and then following up on the babies' health outcomes, the researchers hope to improve the care these vulnerable infants receive. They will look at both short-term results, like survival and how well the baby can feed, and long-term outcomes, such as development at age two.

To participate in this trial, infants with suspected or confirmed NEC who are being evaluated by a surgeon may be eligible. The study is open to all genders and ages, and parents will need to give consent for their baby to be involved. Parents can expect to have their child’s health outcomes monitored over time, and the information gathered may help shape better treatment options for future babies with this condition.
