ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the use of surgical mesh during a specific bladder cancer surgery called radical cystectomy. This surgery involves removing the bladder and creating a new way for urine to leave the body. One common problem that can occur after this surgery is a parastomal hernia, which happens when tissue bulges through the abdominal wall near the opening created for the urine. This can cause discomfort and other issues for patients. The trial aims to find out if placing a mesh during the surgery can help prevent this hernia from forming.
To be eligible for this trial, participants should be adults aged 65 to 74 who have been diagnosed with certain types of bladder cancer. Those who are only receiving non-surgical treatments won't be included. If you decide to participate, you'll be randomly assigned to either receive the mesh during your surgery or not, and the study will compare the outcomes for both groups. This research is important because it could improve the quality of life for patients undergoing this type of surgery by potentially reducing the risk of hernias and their associated problems.
