ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring how a medication called sugammadex can help reduce a condition known as emergence agitation (EA) in children undergoing strabismus surgery, which is an eye surgery to correct misalignment. Emergence agitation can cause confusion and restlessness as children wake up from anesthesia. The study aims to see if using sugammadex instead of another medication called neostigmine can lower the chances of this happening.
To participate in this trial, children between the ages of 4 and 7 who are scheduled for elective strabismus surgery may be eligible, as long as they are classified as ASA 1-3, which means they are generally healthy or have mild health issues. However, children with more serious health problems, certain medical conditions, or allergies may not qualify. If chosen, participants can expect to receive either sugammadex or neostigmine during their surgery and will be monitored for any signs of emergence agitation as they wake up. This research could help improve recovery experiences for young patients after surgery.
