ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is investigating a new way to assess patients' health before major abdominal surgery. Traditionally, doctors use a test called cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) to measure how well a patient's heart and lungs work, but this test can be expensive and is not available everywhere. The researchers want to see if a remote monitoring patch, which tracks vital signs like heart rate and breathing from home, can be a helpful alternative for evaluating a patient's fitness for surgery. They will compare the information gathered from the remote monitoring with CPET results to see if it can effectively predict surgical risks.

To participate in this study, you need to be an adult (18 years or older) who is scheduled for elective major abdominal surgery and referred for CPET. You'll need to be comfortable using a smartphone to manage the monitoring system. During the study, you'll wear the patch for 3-5 days before your surgery, and complete some questionnaires about your health and the monitoring experience. The trial is currently recruiting participants at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, and is designed to improve surgical safety and patient care.
