ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new method for measuring pressure in the lungs of children who are on mechanical ventilation due to serious breathing problems, such as Pediatric Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (PARDS). The researchers want to see if a quicker way to fill the catheter used for measuring pressure in the esophagus is more accurate than the current standard method. Accurate pressure measurements are important for providing safe and effective treatment, as they help doctors understand how well the lungs are functioning during mechanical ventilation.
To participate in the study, children aged between 1 month and 18 years who are receiving mechanical ventilation support may be eligible, as long as their breathing settings won't change in the next two hours. Parents or guardians must provide consent for their child to be included. Participants can expect to undergo a procedure where a small tube is placed in the esophagus to measure pressure, which will help doctors improve care for children with breathing difficulties. The study is currently recruiting participants, and it is important to note that not everyone will qualify; for example, children who are about to be taken off the ventilator or have certain medical conditions may not be eligible.
