ClinConnect Summary

The Virtendon-Rehab trial is studying the effectiveness of a virtual reality (VR) rehabilitation program for patients with chronic tendinopathy, which includes conditions like pain in the shoulder, elbow, knee, and Achilles tendon. Tendinopathy can lead to significant discomfort and limit daily activities, affecting about 30% of people with musculoskeletal injuries. This trial aims to see if using VR can make rehabilitation more engaging and effective by allowing patients to participate in fun, competitive exercises tailored to their individual needs.

To be eligible for the trial, participants should be aged 65 and older and have been diagnosed with one of the specific types of tendinopathy, with symptoms lasting more than six weeks. However, those who have had recent surgery, certain medical conditions that limit exercise, or recent treatments like corticosteroid injections will not be allowed to participate. If eligible, participants can expect to engage in a 12-week VR program, where their progress will be monitored and assessed for improvements in pain, function, and overall quality of life. This innovative approach hopes to enhance treatment for chronic tendinopathy while potentially reducing healthcare costs.
