ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called "Preschool Hearing Screening," is focused on finding the best way to identify hearing loss in young children. Early detection is important because children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing can face challenges with speech and language development. The study will compare two methods of hearing screening: the standard two-step approach and a simpler one-step method, to see if they are equally effective in a preschool setting. By screening around 28,000 preschoolers, researchers hope to improve how quickly and effectively hearing issues are found, which could help prevent delays in speech and language skills.
To be eligible for this trial, children must be between 2 and 6 years old and enrolled in a community preschool program. They cannot already have a known permanent hearing loss or use a hearing device. During the trial, all participating children will receive both types of hearing tests. If a child shows signs of potential hearing problems, they will be referred for further testing. Parents can expect to learn more about their child's hearing health and contribute to important research that aims to enhance early detection of hearing loss in young children.
