ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the effects of two types of dental devices, called hyrax and hybrid hyrax appliances, on root resorption, which is when the roots of teeth can become shorter during treatment. The researchers want to understand how these devices used for maxillary expansion (widening the upper jaw) affect dental health. The study will use advanced imaging technology called cone beam computed tomography to closely examine any changes in tooth roots after treatment.
To take part in this study, participants should be between the ages of 10 and 19 and have specific dental issues, such as a narrow upper jaw and crossbites (when upper and lower teeth don’t line up properly). They should also have good oral hygiene and no prior orthodontic treatment. However, individuals with certain conditions, like congenital facial anomalies or a history of gum disease, will not be eligible. If selected, participants can expect to receive treatment using one of the appliances and will undergo imaging to help researchers collect important data on tooth health throughout the process.
