ClinConnect Summary
The IPES Trial is studying how a surgery called pulmonary endarterectomy, which can help people with a specific type of high blood pressure in the lungs known as chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), affects sleep-related breathing problems. These problems can include conditions like obstructive sleep apnea, where a person might stop breathing for short periods during sleep. The researchers want to understand how these breathing issues change over five years after the surgery, especially since many patients with CTEPH may experience severe drops in oxygen levels at night.
To participate in this study, individuals must be between the ages of 65 and 74, have been diagnosed with CTEPH through specific medical tests, and be eligible for the surgery. Participants will undergo a sleep study to assess their breathing during sleep before and after the surgery. It’s important to know that this trial is not yet recruiting participants, and anyone who does not want to take part or has passed away cannot be included. This research aims to shed light on the connection between CTEPH and sleep-related breathing disorders, which could lead to better care for patients in the future.
