ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how the tiny organisms living in our intestines, known as the gut microbiome, may affect digestive disorders like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. Researchers want to collect samples from the small intestine during a procedure called endoscopy, which is a routine examination for patients at Stanford University’s Digestive Health Center. The goal is to understand more about the gut microbiome and how it relates to these gastrointestinal (GI) conditions.

To participate in this study, you must be over 18 years old and scheduled for an upper endoscopy as part of your regular medical care. Unfortunately, children, pregnant women, and individuals with certain decision-making challenges cannot participate. If you join the trial, you can expect to provide a small sample of your intestinal contents, which will help researchers learn more about gut health and its impact on GI diseases. This research could lead to better treatments and understanding of these conditions in the future.
