ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring the effects of two different types of breathing exercises—called inspiratory muscle training and expiratory muscle training—on the respiratory health of adults who have suffered an acquired brain injury (ABI). Researchers believe that improving the strength of the muscles used for breathing can help these patients breathe better and improve their overall lung function. The study will enroll 26 participants who will be randomly assigned to one of the training groups. Over eight weeks, they will practice their assigned exercises five days a week.
To join the study, participants must be part of a specific organization (ASDACE) and be able to provide informed consent, meaning they understand what the study involves. However, people with certain recent respiratory diseases or those who cannot understand the tests involved will not be eligible. Throughout the trial, researchers will measure breathing strength and lung function to see how effective each training method is. This study aims to contribute valuable information about helping individuals with ABI improve their respiratory health.
