ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at a new treatment option for people with both obesity and gum disease, known as periodontitis. The researchers want to find out if adding a special light therapy called antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) to the usual dental cleaning process (called scaling and root planing) can help improve gum health more than just the dental cleaning alone. They will check the participants’ gum health at 1, 3, and 6 months after treatment to see if there are any improvements in inflammation and overall gum condition.
To join the study, participants need to be adults with a specific level of obesity and have moderate to severe gum disease. They should have at least 20 teeth and cannot have smoked, consumed alcohol or drugs, or received certain medications recently. The trial is currently looking for volunteers, and both men and women can participate. If you qualify and choose to take part, you will receive either the regular treatment or the new light therapy in addition to it, and researchers will track how your gums respond over time.
