ClinConnect Summary

The WHERE Study is a clinical trial looking at patients who are waiting for hip or knee replacement surgery due to osteoarthritis. This study is important because many people face long wait times for these surgeries, which can lead to increased pain and difficulties in daily activities. The researchers want to understand how these wait times affect patients' health and recovery, especially since some patients may not get worse while waiting. They will follow about 3,008 patients across Canada for up to two years, collecting information on their pain levels, ability to move, use of pain medication, and overall quality of life.

To be eligible for the study, participants must be at least 18 years old and have osteoarthritis in the hip or knee. They should also be able to give their consent to join the study. Throughout the trial, participants can expect regular check-ins where their health information will be gathered. This research aims to shed light on how waiting for surgery impacts patients and may help improve care and policy surrounding waitlists in the future.
