ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating whether a medication called azithromycin can help cleanse the upper gastrointestinal tract (the part of the digestive system that includes the esophagus, stomach, and the beginning of the small intestine) before urgent endoscopy procedures in patients experiencing acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding. The goal is to see if azithromycin is both effective and safe for this purpose.
To participate in the study, you need to be between the ages of 65 and 74 and have experienced upper gastrointestinal bleeding within the last 12 hours. However, if you have taken certain medications in the last 12 hours, are allergic to azithromycin, are pregnant, or if your doctor believes it’s not suitable for you, you may not be eligible. If you join the trial, you can expect to receive the medication and undergo the endoscopy as part of the study. This research aims to provide important information that could help improve care for patients with similar conditions in the future.
