ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how keeping a diary of breathing exercises can help patients recover after major abdominal surgery, like colorectal surgery or liver resection. The main goal is to see if using this diary can reduce problems like shortness of breath, fatigue, and other breathing issues that can arise after surgery. The study will involve 60 patients who will be divided into two groups: one group will use the breathing exercise diary, while the other will not. Researchers will monitor their recovery over three days after surgery to gather information about their breathing and overall health.
To participate in this trial, patients should be scheduled for elective major abdominal surgery and able to stay in the hospital for at least three days afterward. It's important that they are literate, as they will need to write in the diary. However, individuals with chronic respiratory diseases, those taking certain medications that affect their mental state, or those with conditions like Alzheimer's or dementia will not be eligible. Participants can expect regular check-ins with the research team to track their progress and see how well the diary helps with their recovery. This study aims to improve the understanding of how simple tools like a diary can make a significant difference in post-surgery recovery.
