ClinConnect Summary
The Cultural Pride Reinforcement for Early School Readiness Study is a research project aimed at helping young African American children who may face challenges due to racism. This study will explore how boosting cultural pride through special children's books and advice can improve both children's behavior and their readiness for school. Researchers will work with families from primary care clinics in Los Angeles, focusing on children aged 2 to 4 years. The goal is to see if providing these resources can help caregivers share more books with their kids and, in turn, enhance the children's behavioral health and literacy skills.
To be eligible for this study, parents or guardians must be at least 18 years old, speak English, and have a 2 to 4-year-old African American child. However, children with severe cognitive impairments or communication difficulties cannot participate. Families who take part can expect to receive culturally relevant books during their health visits and will be asked about their experiences. The study aims to understand how these activities can positively influence children's development and address the harmful effects of racism on their health and learning.
