ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how two different methods of anesthesia, low-flow and high-flow, affect young patients undergoing heart surgery. Low-flow anesthesia uses less anesthetic gas by recycling some of the exhaled air, while high-flow anesthesia provides a continuous supply of fresh gas. The researchers want to see if these methods change the levels of carboxyhemoglobin (a form of carbon monoxide in the blood) and how they impact the heart and overall health of children during and after surgery.
To participate in this study, children must be between 2 months and 7 years old and scheduled for elective heart surgery. Unfortunately, those who require emergency surgery, need breathing assistance before the operation, or have certain heart conditions are not eligible. If your child qualifies and decides to participate, they will receive either low-flow or high-flow anesthesia during their surgery, and the team will closely monitor their health throughout the process. This study aims to help improve anesthesia practices for young patients undergoing heart surgery.
