ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying ways to better diagnose and understand liver diseases, particularly non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and its more serious form, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The researchers are focusing on finding specific markers in the blood that can indicate how severe the liver damage is, which would help doctors avoid the need for painful liver biopsies. Instead of a biopsy, participants will provide a simple blood sample, and the study will also use imaging tests to assess liver stiffness, giving a clearer picture of liver health without invasive procedures.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must be adults aged 65 to 74 with a body mass index (BMI) over 35, and they should qualify for bariatric surgery according to international guidelines. However, individuals with active liver infections, those who struggle with alcohol or drug addiction, or those who cannot provide informed consent will not be included. If you participate, you can expect to contribute to important research that could lead to easier and more accurate ways to diagnose liver issues, which is especially crucial for those at risk due to obesity.
