ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new way to help patients understand and make decisions about bariatric surgery, which is a type of weight-loss surgery. The goal is to see if a special online course can improve how well patients remember important information and how satisfied they feel with the decision-making process. Patients who take part in the study will be randomly assigned to either take this online course or follow the usual process of getting consent for surgery. The course includes videos, reading materials, and quizzes to help ensure they understand the information.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must be at least 18 years old, able to read and write in English, and have completed a specific weight loss program to qualify for bariatric surgery. They also need access to a smartphone or computer, and those seeking revisional surgery (surgery after a previous one) cannot participate. Throughout the trial, patients’ surgical timelines will remain the same, and their consultants will not know whether they are in the study. After the course or standard process, participants will be contacted to discuss what they remember about bariatric surgery and will fill out a questionnaire about their experience. This study aims to improve patient education and satisfaction regarding surgical decisions.
