ClinConnect Summary
This is an observational study (not a treatment trial) being done at Ayden Adnan Menderes University in Aydın, Turkey. Researchers want to see if fasting before surgery is linked to changes in the right side of the heart, using a simple ultrasound test called TAPSE (which measures how much the right heart moves with each heartbeat) along with a few other heart function measures. They plan to enroll about 100 adults and will take TAPSE and related heart measurements while the patient is fasting the day before surgery, with a possible second measurement on the day of surgery depending on how long the fasting lasts. The study is not testing a drug or device, and results will be shared after analysis.
Who could be eligible: adults aged 18 to 75 who are scheduled for surgery at the hospital, have a normal heart rhythm, and no known heart disease. Participants should not be pregnant, have had heart surgery, or have certain conditions like severe pulmonary hypertension, severe valve disease, specific types of cardiomyopathy, or a recent heart attack. The study is currently enrolling by invitation, and results are not yet available. The researchers plan to share the study data at the end.
