ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how different doses of a medication called tranexamic acid and the levels of a test known as Activated Clotting Time (ACT) affect bleeding during heart surgery. The main goal is to find out if giving a higher dose of tranexamic acid can help reduce bleeding and the need for blood transfusions during and after surgery. Additionally, the trial will explore if having a lower ACT level during the procedure can also lead to less bleeding and fewer transfusions.
To participate in this trial, you need to be an adult who is scheduled for heart surgery that involves a heart-lung machine (known as cardiopulmonary bypass). Unfortunately, if you are pregnant, need emergency surgery, have a weakened immune system, or have certain other serious health issues, you may not be eligible to join. Participants will be placed into one of four groups, each receiving different amounts of tranexamic acid and varying ACT levels, to see how these factors impact bleeding. This research is important in helping doctors understand how to improve safety and outcomes for patients undergoing heart surgery.
