ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called "Oral Health and Adverse Pregnancy Complications," is looking at how treating gum disease (periodontitis) during pregnancy can affect the health of both mothers and their babies. Gum disease is a common issue that can cause mild inflammation and has been linked to problems like preterm birth and low birth weight. The study aims to see if treating this condition can improve outcomes for pregnant women and their children, particularly in terms of fetal growth and the risk of early delivery.
To participate in this trial, pregnant women must be planning to give birth at either Holbaek or Nykoebing Falster hospital and have been diagnosed with a specific stage of gum disease by the study dentist. Women who do not have gum disease, have fewer than 20 healthy teeth, are already receiving treatment for gum disease, or have a more severe stage of gum disease are not eligible. If you qualify, you can expect to receive treatment for your gum disease during your pregnancy, and the researchers will monitor how this treatment affects you and your baby.
