ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying new methods to help prevent a type of lung infection called early-onset ventilator-associated pneumonia (EO-VAP) in patients who are on a breathing machine (mechanical ventilation) after experiencing severe medical issues like strokes, head trauma, or cardiac arrest. The trial aims to compare two non-invasive techniques for clearing airways to see if they can effectively reduce the risk of this infection. A total of 60 participants will be involved, with each method being tested for seven days, and follow-up observations will continue for an additional 14 days.
To be eligible for this trial, participants should be expected to need a breathing tube (endotracheal intubation) for more than 48 hours and must have experienced conditions like severe trauma, stroke, or cardiac arrest. However, individuals with a poor prognosis or those who have limitations on life support will not be able to participate. If someone joins the study, they can expect to receive one of the airway clearance techniques and will be closely monitored for their health and safety throughout the trial. This research is not yet recruiting participants, but it aims to find better ways to protect vulnerable patients from serious lung infections.
