ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at a new way to assess swallowing in patients who have a tracheostomy, which is a surgical opening in the neck that helps with breathing. The study will compare a simple 3-ounce water test to the usual methods doctors use to check swallowing, like special imaging tests. Researchers want to see if the 3-ounce water test can be a reliable option for these patients.
To participate in this trial, you need to be at least 18 years old and have a tracheostomy. You should be alert and able to follow instructions during the testing, and you shouldn’t be on a special diet for swallowing issues. If you join the study, you'll undergo the water test and the usual swallow assessments to see how well they work. This could be a chance to help improve swallowing tests for future patients with tracheostomies.
