ClinConnect Summary

The Swedish BioFINDER - Memory Clinic Study is a clinical trial aimed at improving the diagnosis of memory-related conditions, such as mild dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Many people with these issues currently face challenges in getting the right diagnosis, with about 25-30% not receiving accurate results using traditional methods. The researchers have developed new blood tests that might be able to replace more invasive tests that involve collecting cerebrospinal fluid, making the process easier and more cost-effective for patients. This study will include 1,200 patients who are already being evaluated at the Memory Clinic in Sweden. They will provide blood and cerebrospinal fluid samples, which will then be compared to see how well the new blood tests work for diagnosing these conditions.

To participate, individuals must be undergoing evaluation for cognitive symptoms at the Memory Clinic and have planned blood and cerebrospinal fluid tests as part of their care. Participants can expect their test results to be assessed in three different ways: first without any test results, then with just the blood test results, and finally with both the blood and cerebrospinal fluid test results. This study aims to validate the new blood tests for diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease and determine if they can improve how patients are managed in memory clinics.
