ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how fasting affects the body's energy use, specifically looking at why some people experience a bigger change in their metabolism than others when they fast. The researchers will first observe how a 24-hour fast influences the body's basic energy needs, known as the basal metabolic rate. Then, participants who show different reactions will take part in the main study, where they will compare the effects of fasting for 24 hours versus 8 hours. The study will also explore how the body responds to food after fasting and the role of thyroid hormones in these changes.
To join this study, participants need to be between 18 and 40 years old and have a body mass index (BMI) between 18.0 and 27.0. However, individuals with certain health conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease, or those who have used drugs recently, cannot participate. Those who join can expect to undergo some tests related to their metabolism and provide a small sample of fat tissue for further analysis. It's a great opportunity to contribute to important research on how our bodies adapt to fasting!
