ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring the best way to provide hemodialysis, a treatment for patients with severe kidney disease, to elderly individuals who still have some kidney function. The researchers want to see if giving hemodialysis twice a week instead of the usual three times a week can reduce hospital visits for older patients. They believe that starting with twice-weekly treatments may help elderly patients feel better and have fewer complications, especially since many of them may have other health issues like high blood pressure or diabetes.
To be eligible for this study, participants need to be at least 60 years old and have been diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease, starting maintenance hemodialysis within the past month and still producing a certain amount of urine. The trial will include around 428 patients, and they will be followed for up to two years. Throughout the study, patients will receive care based on their individual needs, and the main focus will be on how many times they need to go to the hospital during this time, along with their overall quality of life. This trial is currently recruiting participants, and it's important for potential candidates to understand the study procedures and provide informed consent before joining.
