ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying the best way to confirm that a breathing tube, called an endotracheal tube, is positioned correctly in young children who need surgery on their face or mouth. The researchers believe that using ultrasound—a type of imaging that uses sound waves—might be better than traditional methods that involve listening to the chest or feeling the tube with hands. They want to see if this new method can help ensure that the tube is in the right place and to suggest guidelines for using ultrasound effectively in these situations.

To participate in this study, children between 6 months and 7 years old who are scheduled for certain types of surgery may be eligible. However, children who are expected to have a difficult time with intubation, have specific facial deformities, or if their parents do not agree to the study, will not be included. For those who do join, they can expect to have their breathing tube placed using standard procedures while the researchers assess how well the ultrasound works to check its position. This could help improve safety and care for pediatric patients undergoing surgery in the future.
