ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how race affects the health outcomes of pregnant women and their babies at UVA hospital. Researchers want to understand if Black and Hispanic mothers and infants face more health challenges during and after childbirth compared to Non-Black, Non-Hispanic individuals. This study is important because national statistics show that Black mothers are four times more likely to die during childbirth and Black infants are 2.4 times more likely to die before their first birthday than their Non-Hispanic White counterparts. By analyzing data from medical records, the team hopes to uncover more about these health disparities and what might be causing them.
To participate in this trial, women who are pregnant can be eligible. There are no specific exclusions, which means if you are pregnant, you may qualify. If you choose to take part, you can expect your health information to be carefully analyzed by researchers to help improve care for mothers and infants in the future. This study is still in the planning stages and has not started recruiting participants yet, but it aims to make a significant impact on understanding and addressing health inequalities in pregnancy.
