ClinConnect Summary
The Parent-Child Memory Study is focused on helping mothers from low-income communities improve their parenting strategies. Researchers want to understand how mothers can be encouraged to think about the long-term benefits of positive parenting rather than opting for immediate solutions, like harsh discipline. The goal is to reduce behaviors that can negatively affect children's mental health and strengthen the parent-child relationship.
To participate in this study, mothers or grandmothers from the Flint area with children aged 5-10 can join if they have regular contact with the child and are willing to engage in the study. Participants will need a working cell phone to communicate via text and may also use video calls for some sessions. Those who feel suicidal or have certain mental health issues will not be eligible. Throughout the study, participants can expect to be involved in observations and surveys that aim to improve their parenting approach and ultimately support better mental health for their children.
