ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how having a disabled sibling affects the growing-up experience of healthy adolescents. Researchers want to understand how these siblings function in different areas of their lives, including their family relationships, friendships, and school experiences. They are particularly interested in whether having a disabled sibling leads to differences in maturity, social interactions, and the risk of psychological issues compared to kids with siblings who do not have disabilities.
To participate in this study, adolescents must be between 16 and 18 years old. Those with disabled siblings should have either an intellectual disability, a motor disability, or a chronic illness like diabetes, and one of their parents must also be involved in the study. The control group will consist of healthy adolescents with no disabled siblings. Participants will complete questionnaires about their family dynamics, school performance, and friendships, while their parents will help assess any emotional or behavioral challenges. This research aims to provide insights that could help families and professionals understand the unique experiences of healthy siblings in these situations.
