ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the use of a special ultrasound technique called lung ultrasound during open abdominal surgery. The goal is to see if a certain finding, known as "B-lines," can help doctors determine if a patient has too much fluid in their body while they are undergoing surgery. This is important because having too much fluid can lead to complications, but there isn't a reliable way to check for it during surgery right now. By observing these B-lines, researchers hope to find out if they could be a useful sign of fluid overload in surgical patients.
To participate in this study, you need to be at least 18 years old and scheduled for open abdominal surgery. However, there are some criteria that would exclude you, such as having had previous chest surgery, a body mass index (BMI) over 30, or certain breathing problems that require extra oxygen. If you join the study, you can expect to undergo a lung ultrasound during your surgery to help gather information about fluid levels in your body. This research could eventually help improve care for patients undergoing similar procedures in the future.
