ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying two different methods to help critically ill children who are on mechanical ventilation breathe on their own again. Specifically, it compares two types of support: one called Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist (NAVA) and another called Synchronised Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation (SIMV). The main goals are to find out if using NAVA can help children spend less time on the ventilator and shorten their stay in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) compared to SIMV.
To participate, children must be critically ill and admitted to the PICU. If a child's family agrees to take part, they will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups for weaning off the ventilator. Throughout the trial, researchers will collect and compare data on how well each method works. The trial is not yet recruiting participants, so there will be more information available in the future for families considering this option for their child.
