ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new way to help doctors choose the right size breathing tube for young children undergoing surgery. Specifically, researchers want to see if using an ultrasound measurement of a bone in the wrist (the distal radius) can predict the best size of the tube, compared to the traditional method that relies on the child's age. The goal is to improve airway management during surgery, which is important for keeping children safe and comfortable.
To participate in the study, children between the ages of 1 and 6 who weigh between 10 and 30 kg and are scheduled for elective surgery that requires a breathing tube may be eligible. However, children with certain conditions, such as problems with their airways or active respiratory illnesses, cannot take part. If a child joins the trial, they can expect to have a quick ultrasound test to measure the bone before their surgery, which will help doctors better prepare for their airway management. Overall, this study aims to make the process smoother and safer for young patients.
