ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how oral hygiene instructions can affect certain inflammatory markers in people with gingivitis who smoke cigarettes or use electronic cigarettes (vapes). The main goal is to understand whether vaping impacts levels of inflammation in the mouth compared to traditional smoking and non-smoking individuals who all have gingivitis. Participants will be divided into three groups: those who smoke cigarettes, those who vape, and non-smokers, all with a diagnosis of gingivitis. They will receive guidance on how to improve their oral hygiene, and their levels of specific inflammatory substances will be measured before and after this training.
To be eligible for the study, participants must be male cigarette smokers for at least a year but not more than eight cigarettes a day, or electronic cigarette users with low to medium dependence. They should have at least 20 teeth and show signs of generalized gingivitis, which means they have bleeding gums but no severe gum disease. However, individuals who smoke both cigarettes and vapes, have used tobacco in other forms, or have certain health issues will not be able to participate. If you join, you can expect to learn more about maintaining good oral hygiene and how it might help manage gum inflammation associated with smoking or vaping.
