ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at ways to improve pain relief for children aged 3 to 12 who are having surgery on their upper arms or elbows. Specifically, it will compare two different medications added to a common anesthetic called bupivacaine: clonidine and magnesium sulfate. The goal is to see if adding clonidine can provide better pain control during and after the surgery compared to using magnesium sulfate.
To participate in this study, children need to be between 3 and 12 years old and scheduled for surgery on one arm. They should be healthy enough according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists, which means they are not seriously ill or have major health problems. However, children with certain conditions, such as allergies to the study medications or problems that make it hard to assess their pain, will not be eligible. If your child is chosen to participate, they can expect to receive one of the two medications along with bupivacaine to help manage pain during their surgery.
