ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying ways to help reduce persistent pain after total knee replacement surgery. Researchers are comparing two different methods of providing anesthesia during the procedure. One method is a "fast track" regional anesthesia, while the other is a "traditional" approach that uses a continuous infusion of pain medication through catheters placed in the leg. The goal is to see if the traditional method can lead to less pain that lasts for six months after the surgery.
To participate in the trial, you need to be between 65 and 74 years old and scheduled for a primary total knee replacement. It's important that you are not allergic to local anesthetics or any medications used in the study, and you should not have a history of chronic opioid use or a high body mass index (BMI over 35). If you join the trial, you will receive one of the two anesthesia methods and be closely monitored to see how well your pain is managed after surgery. This research could help improve pain relief for future knee replacement patients.
