ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how changing artificial airways, like tracheostomies and endotracheal tubes, affects the bacteria living in the airways of critically ill children. These devices are often used to help kids with breathing problems, but they can also lead to infections. The researchers want to see if swapping out these artificial airways changes the types and amounts of bacteria present, which could help doctors understand and manage infections better.
To participate, patients must be in the pediatric or neonatal intensive care unit and have either a tracheostomy or an endotracheal tube. There are no specific exclusions, so most children with these devices will be eligible. During the study, researchers will take small samples from the patients' airways before and after the airway is changed, which is a routine and low-risk procedure. This research aims to gather important information that could improve care for children using these life-saving devices.
