ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how effective an infrared thermal camera is in preventing pressure wounds, also known as pressure ulcers, in patients in intensive care. Pressure wounds can develop when there is constant pressure on the skin, often in areas where bones are close to the surface. These wounds can be serious but are largely preventable if caught early. The researchers want to see if using an infrared camera to monitor skin temperature in pressure-prone areas can help detect potential issues before visible sores appear.

To be eligible for this trial, participants should be at least 18 years old, currently receiving treatment in an intensive care unit, and have a Braden score (a tool to assess a patient’s risk for pressure wounds) of less than 18 points. Those with existing skin damage in the monitored areas or certain medical conditions may not qualify. If you decide to participate, you can expect to have your skin temperature monitored using both the infrared camera and traditional methods to see which is more effective in preventing pressure wounds. This study is important because it could lead to better ways to protect patients from developing these painful and sometimes dangerous wounds.
