ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the long-term effects on brain function in patients who survived after being treated with a specific type of life-support machine called VV ECMO. ECMO, which stands for Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation, is used for patients in critical condition with severe heart or lung problems that don't improve with standard treatments. The trial will focus on patients who were treated with VV ECMO at Meir Medical Center between 2021 and 2023 and who were able to leave the hospital after their treatment.
To be eligible for this study, patients should be between the ages of 65 and 159 and must have survived their hospital stay after receiving VV ECMO. Participants will be asked to complete assessments to evaluate their cognitive (thinking and memory) function one year after leaving the hospital. This research is important because it aims to better understand how ECMO affects patients' brain health in the long term, which can help improve care and support for survivors. The trial is not yet recruiting participants, so those interested should keep an eye out for updates.
