ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new approach to help prevent suicide in young people who come to the Emergency Department (ED) after showing signs of suicidal thoughts or behavior. The goal is to see if a special support program for both the youth and their families is more effective than the usual care provided in the ED. This study is important because suicide is a leading cause of death among young Canadians, and early help can make a big difference.
To participate in this trial, young people aged 12 to 17 who have been assessed at the ED with a specific risk score may be eligible. They need to have a parent or caregiver who speaks English or can use a translator. However, those with certain mental health issues or significant developmental disabilities cannot take part. Participants will receive either the new support program or standard care, and researchers will track how well each approach helps reduce suicidal thoughts and behaviors. This research aims to find better ways to support our youth in crisis.
