ClinConnect Summary
The BRONCUS trial is studying different methods for performing a procedure called percutaneous tracheostomy, which is used to help patients breathe when they are on a ventilator. The trial compares three techniques: using ultrasound, using a bronchoscope (a thin tube with a camera), and a combination of both. The goal is to see which method is safer and whether a standard approach is better than a customized one based on individual patient needs.
To participate in this trial, you need to be an adult over 18 years old who is currently intubated and on mechanical ventilation with a need for a tracheostomy. However, there are some conditions that could prevent you from joining, such as having a short neck, issues with your trachea, a history of neck surgery, or if your doctor believes surgery would be a better option for you. If you decide to take part, you can expect to receive care from a team of professionals who will monitor your safety throughout the process. This trial is currently recruiting participants, and both men and women are welcome to apply.
