ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at a treatment called Percutaneous Cholecystostomy (PC) for patients with acute cholecystitis, which is a sudden inflammation of the gallbladder. While laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is usually the best way to treat this condition, some patients may not be healthy enough for surgery right away. The study aims to understand the complications that can arise from PC and to review when this treatment is appropriate based on existing literature.
To participate in this trial, patients must be admitted to Hospital del Mar with a diagnosis of acute cholecystitis. However, individuals with certain conditions like acute cholangitis (a bile duct infection), acute pancreatitis, cancer, chronic cholecystitis, those under 18 years old, or pregnant women cannot join. Participants will help researchers learn more about the risks associated with PC, which could improve treatment options for future patients facing similar health issues. The trial is currently not recruiting participants yet, but it will soon provide valuable insights into this alternative treatment method.
