ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how we manage patients with penetrating abdominal trauma (PAT), which happens when an object, like a knife or bullet, pierces the abdomen. The study will review the past 15 years of treatment practices at a specific hospital to see how effective they have been and if any changes to current guidelines are needed. Typically, doctors use certain imaging tests, like ultrasounds and X-rays, to evaluate these injuries, but this trial will also consider the use of CT scans, which can be more expensive and involve radiation.
To participate in the trial, patients must be admitted to the emergency department with injuries specifically from penetrating trauma. Unfortunately, those with other types of injuries, like blunt trauma from a car accident, will not be included. For eligible participants, the study will not require any special treatments or procedures beyond what is usually done for their injuries, but it aims to improve future care for everyone with similar injuries. This trial is not yet recruiting participants, so there will be more information available once it officially begins.
