ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is focused on improving the way doctors and healthcare providers identify and support Latinx youth who may be experiencing thoughts of suicide. The aim is to develop a new strategy in pediatric primary care that uses trained community health workers (CHWs) to help families. These CHWs will assist with important tasks like screening for suicidal thoughts, creating safety plans, and providing education for parents, especially those who might not speak English very well. By doing this, the goal is to enhance the quality of care and support available to these young individuals and their families.
To participate in this study, youth and their parents need to identify as Latino/Latinx and be comfortable speaking either English or Spanish. If they agree to take part, they will join a 2-month program that includes 6 to 8 phone sessions with a community health worker. During these sessions, the focus will be on creating safety plans, educating families, and helping with problem-solving and self-care strategies. Participants will also be asked to complete surveys at the beginning and end of the program to share their experiences. There are no specific exclusions, so many families in the eligible age range can take part in this important research.
