ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called "Socialization To Enrich Participation & Support Sexuality for Young People With I/DD," is studying how effective a 6-week program called STEPS2 is in teaching young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) about sexual health and relationships. The trial focuses on individuals aged 16-27 who live in New York and have mild to moderate I/DD. It aims to find out if participants who take the STEPS2 course will have more knowledge about sexual health topics, like talking to doctors about sexual health, understanding HPV vaccinations, and knowing what sex is, compared to those who take a different program focused on nutrition and exercise.
If you or someone you know is eligible, participants will have weekly virtual sessions with a health educator for six weeks, either one-on-one for the STEPS2 group or in small groups for the comparison group. The goal is to see if the STEPS2 program helps increase knowledge and encourages healthy behaviors regarding sexual health. The study is currently recruiting participants, and it’s important to note that females who are pregnant cannot take part. This trial offers a chance to learn valuable information in a supportive environment while contributing to important research.
