ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how accurately a machine called a ventilator delivers air to children during surgery. When a child has surgery, doctors use a breathing tube to help them breathe while they are asleep. The ventilator controls how much air, known as tidal volume, goes in and out of the child’s lungs with each breath. In this study, researchers will use a small sensor to measure the actual airflow from the ventilator and compare it to what the machine is set to deliver. This will help them understand if the ventilator is providing the right amount of air.

To be eligible for this study, children aged 0 to 18 years who are having surgery at Nationwide Children's Hospital and will need a breathing tube and ventilator can participate. However, children with existing breathing problems or airway issues will not be included. Participants can expect to have a sensor placed in their breathing setup during surgery to help gather important data, but all other care will be standard and safe. The goal of the study is to improve how ventilators work for children in the future.
