ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how eating carbohydrates before major abdominal surgery compares to not eating (fasting) before the operation. The researchers want to see if having a carbohydrate drink beforehand helps patients recover better after surgery. They are currently recruiting participants, and this study is open to both men and women aged 21 to 70 who are set to have scheduled major abdominal surgery and have a good overall health status.
To be eligible for this study, participants should not have serious health issues, such as advanced cancer or conditions that make it risky to have food in the stomach before surgery. They should also have a body weight within a specific range and not be undergoing emergency surgery. If you choose to participate, you'll be helping researchers understand if preoperative carbohydrate loading can improve outcomes for patients just like you.
